Vision Statement
The vision of the Mississippi Department of Education is to establish an outstanding educational system that equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for success in college and the workforce, as well as to thrive as parents and citizens.
This is huge. We must continue to build on this momentum.
How do we get even better?
We must ensure that all our students and teachers have access to the best materials that align with the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards. This way, Mississippi teachers can provide every student with a quality education, regardless of their starting level. We offer resources, tools, and a comprehensive list of materials that have been reviewed and approved by the Mississippi Department of Education, all conveniently located in one place!
We know every district has a different selection process.
This website aims to assist administrators and teachers in understanding how material selection and adoption occur at the local level.
Why choose high-quality instructional materials?
Many schools fail to provide teachers with instructional materials that adequately address student needs, forcing teachers to fill in the gaps themselves. In fact, 73% of U.S. teachers report using online materials more frequently than traditional hardcover textbooks. Additionally, over 93% of teachers often rely on their own materials or those developed locally. However, searching for supplemental materials can be exhausting due to the vast amount of content available online and the significant variability in quality.
We hope these resources increase:
- the emphasis on high-quality instructional materials in Mississippi classrooms and
- the number of teachers receiving professional development to enhance their knowledge and ability to utilize these materials.
Dedicated to HQIM
Mississippi is working closely with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Instructional Materials and Professional Development Network, which includes fourteen states, to help teachers increase the adoption and use of high-quality, standards-aligned instructional materials in their districts. Research indicates that having high-quality, standards-aligned curricular materials is essential, but it is equally important for educators to be well-supported and skilled in using these materials effectively to address the specific needs of their students. While providing educators with high-quality instructional materials is a vital first step, it is not enough on its own to drive significant improvements in teaching and learning. Additionally, states are focused on ensuring that teachers, educational leaders, and aspiring educators receive thorough and ongoing curriculum-based professional learning, both during their service and in educator preparation programs.
